Recipes for Children to Cook

Jamie Oliver is a great champion of getting kids in the kitchen and learning to cook – and we wholeheartedly agree! Letting children see how easy it is to make healthy and delicious meals is not only a fun activity to do together, but also a vital life skill to learn. In this article, we offer some great recipes that are easy for kids to make. Some recipes might require children to have a little supervision, depending on their age. In the words of BBC’s MasterChef…let’s cook!

  1. Beef Tacos

Delicious beef tacos are always a winner for dinner! In this recipe from Jamie Oliver, with a little support and assistance from a grown up for chopping the vegetables and de-stoning the avocado, kids will be able to create a superb meal for the whole family to enjoy. Once they’ve had a little help with browning the mince in the pan, they will love the messy fun of mashing the avocado with a fork! Pack with an additional variety of vegetables for a fresh, healthy, and very tasty meal.

2. Banana Bread

Perfectly simple to make with little ones – everything simply gets mixed together in one bowl. A great way to use up those bananas that have gone overripe, making little noses turn up! This recipe from Delicious Magazine is simple to follow and gives a great opportunity for children to learn to weigh out ingredients. A little help will be needed with the oven and slicing the bread to eat. Great to put in lunchboxes for children to show off what they have made to all their friends!

3. Easy to Make Quiche

This delicious quiche is great for summer picnics or for a lunch with salad and other accompaniments, kids will love helping to roll out pastry and choosing which combination of delicious ingredients to put inside. This recipe will give a great learning opportunity in safely chopping the chosen vegetables and the eggs are easy to whisk up. The feta cheese adds a wonderfully creamy taste – yum!

4. No-Cook Chocolate Cheesecake

Olive Magazine have come up trumps with an easy to make recipe for children with this no-cook chocolate cheesecake. No hot ovens to contend with, simply pop the completed cheesecake in the fridge to set. Lots of fun to be had when bashing up the digestive biscuits for the base! Kids will be thrilled and proud of their efforts as this looks truly stunning when ready. With Nutella involved and no raw eggs, every opportunity to lick the spoon should be taken!

5. Jamie Oliver Baked Sole Goujons

Captain Birdseye might need to be worried once kids realise how easy these are to make! Homemade delicious fish (your choice – cod, haddock, or sole make great options) baked in breadcrumbs and served with healthy vegetable sides and some potato wedges and all very easy for kids to make. Jamie Oliver uses sole in his recipe and encourages kids to get involved in dipping the fish in egg and then breadcrumbs, ready to go in the oven.
