  • The top 10 most mispronounced place names in the UK have been revealed by the creators of language app Babbel.
  • Frome in Somerset, most commonly pronounced as rhyming with ‘home’, tops the list, average property prices here are just over the UK average.
  • Although English is the second most spoken language in the world, the laws of British English are well known for their complexities. None of these mispronounced names is spelled phonetically.
  • Of these ten locations, all but four have average property prices higher than the current UK average. Beaulieu tops the league with the average price of a property exceeding £500,000.
