Here at Newton Fallowell we know and understand that moving house can be an extremely emotional and stressful time and that there are many different reasons why you may be choosing to move on. One of the reasons which is often overlooked by Estate Agents is Downsizing. Downsizing often comes with the likelihood that the home where you raised your family is being sold and that it is a home where you hold so many dear memories and spent some of the happiest times in your life. Quite possibly a home you don’t want to move out of.
However, with downsizing comes great possibilities. One of the main reasons for downsizing is that the house may be possibly too big for just the two of you and there is now an opportunity to release the equity which is tied up in your house. This equity can now be spent travelling, spending time with the grandchildren, investing for your families’ future or finally being able to do or purchase something you’ve always wished for.
There are also a number of other benefits to downsizing which include:
1. Save money on furnishing your home
A smaller home means less rooms and space to fill, which means you can save money by not having to buy new pieces if you wish. Not only that but also selling off pieces of furniture which will no longer fit in your new place.
2. Less property upkeep (including cleaning!)
Smaller house = less upkeep. A smaller house is likely to take less time to unpack, organise and also clean. It will hopefully also mean less maintenance which means all of this combined may lead to a more relaxed and easier home.
3. Cheaper energy bills
This one is pretty simple as a smaller house is likely to be cheaper to heat and will also use less electricity.
4. Represent a new chapter in your life
You may be struggling to cope with an empty nest or a loss of a loved one and a new home can represent a fresh start and can give you the chance to focus on a new chapter and a new place where you can create new memories.
5. Create your perfect home
Again, if you wish to put your stamp on your new home a good way of doing this without breaking the bank is focusing on a few key rooms which will transfer into the other rooms as it’s a smaller space. You may be able to purchase a few key pieces of furniture or now create the kitchen or living room you’ve always wished for but never been able to implement.
