Spring fever affects more than just the housing market…

So, Spring fever has become Election fever which was a surprise. I wasn’t aware we’d been so successful as to force the Prime Minister to think about making a move out of Number 10 but we’ve got some great properties for her if she needs them in June.  All joking aside, a general election gives us all an opportunity to take stock and look at what matters to us.  The housing market is going to be a big topic for a lot of voters so only good things can come from this opportunity.  Like myself, they will be out there selling all the positives they have to offer, so let’s take a quick look at who’s saying what.

·         Labour: “We will build a million new homes in five years, with at least half a million council homes, through our public investment strategy. We will end insecurity for private renters by introducing rent controls, secure tenancies and a charter of private tenants’ rights, and increase access to affordable home ownership”

·         Conservatives: “We are determined to make housing more affordable and secure for ordinary working families and have a rental market that offers much more choice. We understand people are living longer in private rented accommodation which is why we are fixing this broken housing market so all types of home are more affordable.”

·         Liberal Democrats: “Liberal Democrats have a plan to get Britain building the 300,000 new homes a year that we need. This includes helping housing associations and councils to build more homes through better access to finance and at least ten new Garden Cities. We want a Housing Investment Bank to generate funding for new homes and to support for the construction industry in recruiting enough workers.

These statements come from the parties directly, either from leading party members or their own websites but it shows that good things are on the horizon.  I’m sure other parties will throw their hats in the ring on this topic as well so let’s all keep an eye on this and the other BIG issues of the day.  We’re still experiencing high demand and fast sale times so if you’d like to move into Number 10 in June we’ll get you sold for a great price so that you can get moved and ready for Summer.  Call us today for a free valuation or any other property related advice.
